   “Earl L. Jones, Jr., “Lou” to most, a 75-year-old Round Lake Beach resident, passed away Monday, November 13, 2006 at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Lou was born in Chicago, to Earl and Doris Jones (nee Gray) on April 21, 1931. He was an actor, director, set builder, and more at the P.M.L. Theatre in Antioch for nearly 40 years.
   Beloved husband of 40 years to Wilma Jones (nee Feltner); loving father to Karen (Jim) Cassity and Sandy Buss, both of Lake Villa; proud “Papa” to Ali, Emy, Zoe, Sadie, and Cade; brother to Jim (Pat) Jones of Round Lake. His daughter, Kaye Jones, several brothers and sisters, and aforementioned parents precede him in death.
   Friends of the family may visit on Thursday, November 16, 2006 from 7 to 8 p.m. immediately followed by the memorial service at STRANG FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM, 410 E. “Boy Pours Gas
In Stove, Fire
Kills 3 Sisters

   ROUND LAKE BEACH, Feb. 7 – Efforts of a group of children to revive a stove fire which had dwindled during the excitement of a birthday party turned their home into a furnace and killed three little girls, police said today.
   The parents, who had taken an adult guest to her home, were forced to stand by helplessly while flames swept their home late yesterday.
   Dead were Doris Jones, 9, who had been hostess at the party; and her sisters Victoria, 2, and Rebecca, 14.
   “I ran up to the front of the house and saw Victoria wandering around in the doorway, police quoted their father, Earl Louis Jones, 34, as saying. “I tried to go in, but the flames drove me back.”
   Three brothers, Earl Louis, Jr., 16; Donald, 12, and James, 6, received burns and cuts. Alice, 17, and Jackie, 4, were not hurt.
   Jones said he was returning home after having taken a neighbor to her house, and that he and his wife saw flames coming from their dwelling.
   Earl, Jr., who was credited with saving some of the younger children, said that he noticed that the fire was going out. He took a five-gallon can of gasoline to the stove, intending to use just a few drops. The can exploded and the flames spread through the house quickly.”

According to the McHenry Plaindealer (McHenry IL) Thursday, February 12, 1948, page 1:

“Three Burned

   A joyful birthday celebration turned into tragedy last Friday evening when three sisters died and three brothers were burned, one severely, in a fire in the basement of their Rousd (sic) Lake Beach home, between Grayslake and Lake Villa. The dead are Doris Elaine Jones, 9, honored guest at the party, and her sisters, Victoria, 2, and Rebecca, 14.
   Their brother, Louis, 17, was badly burned in his attempt to rescue his younger three brothers and sisters from the flames. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Louis Jones, parents of the children, were driving a neighbor child home from the party when the tragedy occurred.
   According to information given Sheriff Walter L. Atkinson of Lake county, who investigated the fire, one of the children had thrown gasoline on a coal fire thinking it was kerosene. An explosion occurred and the basement was filled with flames. The eldest boy managed to get his three brothers out of the fire and dashed back to the basement in a futile attempt to save his sisters.”
