(According to David L. McMonigle, a contributor of Findagrave.com: “Also known by the nicknames of “Birda” – “Turah” – “Kate” – “Kattie”. Saturah apparently assumed a middle name of “Kathryn” which she preferred. The name of “T. Kathryn” shown on her grave marker. It has not been determined if she legally changed her name to “Turah Kathryn” or is she informally used this name format as a preference. Satruah was a biological daughter of Ada M. Applegate (1871-1919) and she was apparently adopted by Ada’s husband, Newell M. Hurst (1863-1916)”)

   Menifee Hurst of Corydon, died last Sunday morning at ten o’clock at the Hazelwood Sanitarium, in Jefferson county, Kentucky, near Louisville, where he was taken a few days before.
   He had been ill for three months of tubercular trouble and he grew gradually worse all the time. 
   The body was brought to his home here on Monday morning last where it rested until Tuesday afternoon.  Funeral services were held at the Christian church at two o’clock p. m. Tuesday, conducted by Rev. M. A. Cossaboom.  Music for the occasion was furnished by a quartet composed of the following persons: Mrs. Lee Lockhart, Miss Zela Shuck, John H. Heth and D. M. Rowland.  The burial was in Cedar Hill cemetery.
   Quite a number of the members of the Corydon Lodge Knights of Pythias of which the deceased was a member, attended the funeral in body and conducted the ritualistic services of the order at the grave. 
   The deceased was fifty-three years old and leaves surviving him a wife and eight children.  Mrs. Solomon Holman, of Jeffersonville, Ray, of Chicago, Mamie, Clifford, Stanley, Doek, Leora and Amzi, of Corydon.”

 Mrs. Addie May Hurst, of Corydon, died at the Deaconess Hospital, at Louisville, last Monday morning, at 12-20 o’clock, after a long illness.  Mrs. Hurst was taken to the hospital four weeks ago for medical treatment and two weeks ago she submitted to a surgical operation for gall stones.  The operation was successful and afforded relief but Mrs. Hurst’s nerves gave way and she was unable to stand the shock.
   The body was brought home Monday evening.  Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at half past two o’clock at the Corydon Christian church, conducted by Rev. M. A. Cossaboom, the pastor, assisted by John H. Heth.  Music for the occasion was furnished by a quartet consisted of John H. Heth, Wm J. Bulleit, Mrs. Leo Lockhart and Mrs. Nellie Bulleit with Miss Mollie Keller as organist.  The burial was in Cedar Hill cemetery. 
   The deceased was born and reared in this county.  She was the daughter of the late Frank Applegate and Mrs. Edna J. Applegate, who is blind, and who lived with her daughter and family.
   Mrs. Hurst was aged forty eight years, seven months and nine day.  She leaves surviving her aged mother, above mentioned, and eight children, Mrs. Solomon Holman, of Jeffersonville, Amzi, Stanley, Clifford, Neely, and Monnie of Corydon, and Ray and Mamie of Chicago.  Also two grandchildren.  Also a large number of other relatives and friends.
    One child died about seventeen years ago at the age of eight years.  The husband, Menifee Hurst, died three years ago.
    Mrs. Hurst was a member of the Corydon Christian church, having united with that Christian body several years ago.  She was a good woman and had many friends.  The children and her mother have the sincere sympathy of their many friend in their deep sorry.”

Truman Road, Independence, died Jan. 7, 1991, at the Independence Regional Health Center.  He was born in Corydon, Indiana, and had lived in this area since 1978.  Mr. Hurst was a transportation specialist for the U.S. Department of Defense in Washington until he retired.  He attended the College of Advanced Traffic, Chicago.  He was a member of the Stone Church congregation of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and formerly served as pastor of RLDS congregations in Washington and Chicago.  He was a chaplain at the Independence Regional Health Center.  Survivors include two daughters, Frances Booth, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Helen Steede, College Parke, Md., two granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.  Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. today at the RLDS Stone Church; burial in Memorial Park Cemetery, Falls Church, Virginia.  Friends may call from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. today at the Speaks Suburban Chapel.  The family suggest contributions to the RLDS temple fund.”

   Clifford Carlton Hurst, 74, of 220 E. High St., Corydon, died Sunday at 10:45 a.m. at his home.
    He was born April 10, 1906 in Corydon, the son of Menifee Hurst and Addie Mae Applegate Hurst.  He was a member of the Corydon Christian Church, Knight of Pythia and Masonic Lodge Pisgah 32 of Corydon.  He was a retired grocer having formerly owned Cliff’s Market in Corydon.  He served two terms on the Corydon Town Board and was a former Harrison County Councilman. 
   Survivors are two sons, Harry C. Hurst of Corydon and Clifford L. Hurst of Sherman, Tex.’ Seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren; a brother, Ray Hurst of Independence, Mo., and a sister, Mrs. Monnie Cairins of Mission Viejo, Calif.  His wife H. Louise Knott Hurst preceded him in death.
   The funeral will be held today (Wednesday) at 1 p.m. at Beanblossom-Steenbergen Funeral Home, Corydon, with the Rev. C. H. Hanson officiating.  Pallbearers are Roger Crosler, Owen Miller, Bruce Thompson, Dwight Harper, Chesney Davis and Russell Yeager.  Rita Gettelfinger is accompanists and singers are Paul Conrad, Chesney Davis, Charles Richert and Frank O’Bannon.  Masonic rites were held on Tuesday at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Corydon.  Expressions of sympathy make take the form of contributions to the Christian Church building fund.”

   She was born Jan. 3, 1890 in Corydon, Indiana and lived at 18 East Lake Shore Drive in Round Lake Park for the last 35 years.  She was a member of the Order of the Easter Star, Sorosis Chapter 329 of Grayslake, Emmanual Shrine No. 50, White Shrine of Jerusalem of Lake Forest, Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 1170.  She was an active member of the Salvation Army and an active life long Republican.
   She is survived by 2 sons, Ernest Holman of Englewood Beach, Florida, and Edwin K. (Red) Holman of Round Lake Park; 2 brothers, Ray Hurst of Silver Spring, Maryland and Clifford Hurst of Corydon, Indiana; 1 sister, Mona (Fred) Jr.) Cairns of Hollywood, California.  She was preceded in death by her husband Ray in 1961.
   Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., June 21, 1977 of the MacGillis Funeral Home, 350 Goodnow Blvd., Round Lake, with the Reverend Lisle J. Kauffman officiating.  Interment will be at Fort Hill, Round Lake; Easter Star services will be at 8 p.m.  Friends may call of the funeral home after 5 p.m. Monday.  Memorials in Mrs. Millers name may be made to the Salvation Army.”
