According to the McHenry Plaindealer (McHenry IL) Thursday, June 9, 1938, page 1:

“Last Thursday afternoon, a grave in the Fort Hill cemetery received the body of a man, whose only name, as far as authorities know, was “John,” although inquiries among the farmers for whom he worked during the past years, disclosed that his surname might possibly be Beyelich, and as John Beyelich he was buried.  The man, who had been in America for about 35 years, was known to have come from Czecho-Slovakia.  During the seven years he had been in Lake county he had worked on farms around Wadsworth and Lake Villa, but beyond the fact that he was believed to have two daughters in New York, nothing was known of his relatives or past history.  For the past two months he had worked for Tom Lyons, on Route 43, and after leaving Mr. Lyons’ employ had gone to the adjoining place, which is known as the Hank Edwards place and is occupied by Joe Stanton.  He asked permission to sleep in Stanton’s barn, and was seen about the place about 7:30 Sunday evening.  Monday morning, when Mr. Stanton started searching for the man, he found the lifeless body dangling at the end of a rope.  John, who was 65 years old, had told various people that as he was getting along in years and was not of much account, it would be a good thing if he could die.  Evidently deciding to take matters into his own hands, he procured a rope from the horse barn, and proceeded to end his earthly troubles.”
