Dies Of Heart Attack
   OAKLAND CITY, Feb. 11.- John Monroe Norrick, 52, died at 12:30 o’clock this morning at his home in north Jackson street of a heart attack.  Norrick was a section worker.
   Funeral services will be held at 10 o’clock Thursday morning at the Oakland City General Baptist church in charge of the Rev. A. E. McKenney.  Burial will be in Martin cemetery, near Glezen.
   Surviving are: the widow, Mrs. Nora Norrick; three children, Mrs. Violet O’Neal of Somerville, and Pauline and Mary at home; three step-children, Mrs. James Parker of Montgomery, Howard Thomas of Princeton and Hugh Thomas of Evansville; two brothers, Prentice Norrick of Oakland City and Fred Norrick of Glezen.”

NORA E. NORRICK

   OAKLAND CITY – Mrs. Nora E. Norrick, 84, passed away at 9:20 p.m. Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Violet O’Neal in Sommerville after a long illness.
   She was a former resident of Oakland City and had lived in this area all her life.  She was a member of the Mt. Tabor Church near Wheeling.
   Surviving are two sons, Howard Thomas of Princeton and Hugh Thomas of Francisso; three other daughters, Mrs. Laura Parker, Somerville, Mrs. Pauline Hegen (sic), Round Lake, Ill., and Mrs. Mary Willis of Oakland City; 21 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
   Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Corn Mortuary in Oakland City with burial following in Mt. Tabor Cemetery.
   Friends amy (sic) call at the funeral home after 11 a.m. Friday.”

   OAKLAND CITY – Mary Willis, 88, of Oakland City passed away on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012 at her home in Oakland City.  She was born March 28, 1924 in Oakland City to John and Nora (Welch) Norrick.  She attended the Francisco Gospel Ministry Church.  She was a member of the VFW Post#1147 Ladies Aux. and Oakland City American Legion #256.
   She is survived by her daughter, Danella Loveless of Somerville; son, Michael (Georganna) Willis of Oakland City, daughter-in-law and caregiver, Hazel Skelton; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
   She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hector Forrest “Hap” Willis in 1975; two sons, Forrest M. Willis and Raymond L. Skelton; six sisters and five brothers.
   Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday Nov. 23, 2012 at Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City, with Rev. Bob McDonald officiating.  Burial will be at the Martin Cemetery in Glezen.  Visitation will be from noon until service time on Friday at the funeral home.

EARLY THIS MORNING

   Mrs. Hazel Rose, 32, died at 2 o’clock this morning at the Methodist hospital here, following the birth of an infant daughter Wednesday night.
   Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o’clock Saturday afternoon at Memorial Methodist church, in charge of the Rev. Erwin Omohundro.  Burial will be at Mt. Tabor cemetery, near Wheeling.
   Surviving are: the husband, Lee Rose; the mother and step-father Mr. and Mrs. John Norrick, of Oakland City; a daughter, Wilma Lee; a son, Bobbie Joe, and the infant daughter who has not been named; two brothers, Howard Thomas, of Princeton, and Hugh Thomas, of Kingsburg, Ill.; four sisters, Mrs. Laura Parker, of Montgomery, and Violet, Pauline and Mary Norrick, of Oakland City; and two grandmothers, Mrs. Callie France, of near Mt. Olympus, and Mrs. Mary Jane Welch, of Oakland City.
   Mrs. Rose, whose home was near Mt. Olympus, was born in Gibson county, near Oatsville, August 9, 1901, and had spent her life in the county.  As a good Christian woman she was an active member of the Memorial Methodist church and active in church work.
   The body was taken to the home of Mr. Rose’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Rose, 1011 south Gibson street.”

‘CULMER THOMAS

         The Rev. Jack Barnett Haskins will conduct the 2 p.m. Thursday services for Culmer Hugh Thomas who died at the age of 72, on Thursday morning at his home.  Services will be at Kendall Funeral home, with burial in Mount Tabor Cemetery.
  Thomas was born in Gibson county on March 19, 1903, and had resided there his entire lifetime.  He was a retired railroad switchman.  Thomas served in the United States Marines from 1923 to 1926.
   He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Patricia Grimm of Princeton and Mrs. Shirley Edwards of Francisco; one brother, Howard Thomas of Princeton; fourt sisters, Mrs. Violet O’Neal and Mrs. Laura Parker, both of Somerville, Mrs. Mary Willie of Oakland City and Mrs. Pauline Haggen of Lake Forest, Ill.; 10 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
   Friends may call after 3 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.”

Special to the Clarion-News.
  WHEELING, Ind., July 5. – The death of Hassel Thomas, 13-year-old son of Mrs. John North, occurred Tuesday night at 10 o’clock from diphtheria, at the home three miles northeast of hear.  The burial took place Wednesday morning at Mt. Tabor cemetery.
   Two other children in the family had the diphtheria, but have recovered.  The home was fumigated and the quarantine lifted today.
   The family have the sympathy of all in the loss of their little boy.”
