An early settler of Lake County purchasing 80 acres in Avon Township, Section 29, Township 45N, Range 10E on October 13, 1842 for $1.25 per acre and 40 acres in Avon Township, Section 28, Township 45N, Range 10E on October 13, 1843 at $1.25 per acre

According to the McHenry Plaindealer (McHenry IL) Wednesday, March 14, 1883, page 5:

“Mrs. Lawson, wife of the deceased Stephen Lawson, has departed from her many friends in this place, to live with her sister in Waukegan.”

According to the Lake County Independent (Libertyville IL) Friday, February 28, 1913, page 1:

“FORMER WAUKEGAN
WOMAN DIES IN ZION

   Mrs. Catherine Lawson, a former well-known Waukegan resident, died Saturday in Zion City, aged 91 years.  She would have been 92 years old in next August.  Mrs. Lawson was a step mother of Mrs. Henry Roger of West street, Waukegan, her name formerly being Huson before her marriage to Mr. Lawson.  She was also an aunt of Judd Putnam of Waukegan.
   Mrs. Lawson for years lived on Fairview place, Waukegan, moving to Zion about two years ago after selling her home to Charles Rover.
   Funeral Tuesday at 9:30 o’clock in Zion City.”

According to the Past and Present of Lake County, Illinois, 1877, Chicago IL, page 444:

“ROGERS, HENRY, general merchandise; P.O. Volo; owns 200 acres in Grant Township, worth $8,000; Rep.; Ind.; born in Rochester, N.Y., in 1837; married Rhoda Ann Huson in McHenry in 1856; she was born in New York in 1841; children – Millie, born Sept. 5, 1863; Nellie, born Aug. 21, 1865; Rhoda Ann, born July 24, 1967; Laura H., born Jan. 8, 1871; Henry Wellington, born July 16, 1877; Francis A. born Feb. 18, 1857, died Feb. 13, 1863; Judson H., born Nov. 18, 1859, died Feb. 7, 1863.  Mr. R. moved from New York to Michigan in 1852, and came to Lake County in 1854; has held office of Town Clerk and Collector; was Postmaster of Forksville, now Volo, from 1865 to 1867.”

According to the Waukegan Weekly Gazette (Waukegan IL) Saturday, June 2, 1877, page 3:

   “The public will be pained to learn of the death of Dr. Richard Huson, which occurred at the family residence in Avon, about one o’clock on Friday morning.  Mr. Huson was an early settler, having come to Lake county more than thirty years ago.  For several years he practiced medicine here but afterward relinquished his practice and engaged in farming.  He was universally respected and his death will cause genuine sorrow in the hearts of all who knew him.”

According to the McHenry Plaindealer (McHenry IL) Wednesday, April 27, 1887, page 5:

“GEORGE HUSON, who formerly lived at Volo, died in Chicago last week, and his remains passed through here on their way to Volo, where they were intered on Monday.”

    • Burgess Truesdell Huson born December 30, 1823 in Yates County, NY; married Sarah E. Gale (1832-1911) on February 17, 1852 in Lake County, IL, daughter of Francis Gale (1805-1888) and Patience (Scott) Gale (1805-1964); Burgess died August 15, 1889; Burgess and Sarah are buried in Volo Cemetery,  Wauconda, Lake County, IL

According to the Illinois, Public Land Purchase Records, 1800-1990:

“Burgess T. Huson purchased 40 acres in Section 34 (Goodale/Grant Township), Township 45N, Range 9E at $1.25 per acre”

According Ancestry.com contributor Susan McCannon of a letter from Lisle Allen Huson date in August 1891 to her family in Vermont:

“there have five been taken from this family in the last two years. Father (Burgess), Albert (Kepple), baby Kepple, Hubert and Frank”

    • Louisa (Huson) Booth born about 1826 in New York; married Marshal H. Booth (1829-1906) on October 24, 1849 in Lake County, IL, a son of Andrew Booth (1775-1873) and Hester (Hurd) Booth (1780-1842) and a former retail dry good merchant in Richmond, McHenry County, IL; Marshal was born in 1822 in New York and died November 14, 1906 in Elgin, Kane County, IL; Marshal was appointed postmaster of Forksville (Volo), Lake County, IL on May 12, 1851; Louisa died February 12, 1883 in Elgin, Kane County, IL; Louisa and Marshal are buried in Volo Cemetery, Wauconda, Lake County, IL

According to the McHenry Plaindealer (McHenry IL) Thursday, November 22, 1906, page 5:

“Mr. Marsh Booth of Elgin, was buried in the Volo cemetery Saturday. Booth formerly resided here.”

    • Elijah Lafayett Huson born about 1827 in New York; married Laura M. McKey or McKee (1830-1913); Elijah died in April 20, 1895 near Volo, Lake County, IL; Elijah and Laura are buried in Volo Cemetery, Wauconda, Lake County, IL

According to the McHenry Plaindealer (McHenry IL) Wednesday, April 24, 1895, page 5:

“E. L. Huson died at his residence near Volo, on Saturday last, age about 68 years. He had been sick nearly a year but was able to be around until within a week or two before his death.  He was an old and highly respected citizen of that place and his death will be deeply deplored by a large circle of friends.  His funeral took place from the M. E. Church Volo, on Tuesday afternoon, and was conducted by the Masonic fraternity, of which he was an honored member.”

    • Samantha M. (Huson) Torrance born August 29, 1829 in New York; married Gabriel D. Torrance (1823-1899); Samantha died February 6, 1918 in Rochelle, Flagg Township, Ogle County, IL; Samantha and Gabriel are buried in Franklinville Cemetery, McHenry County, IL

According to the History of McHenry County, Illinois, Volume II, 1922, Chicago, pages 903-904 (in regards to George L. Torrance, son of Samantha (Huson) Torrance and Gabriel D. Torrance:

“George L. Torrance, one of the prosperous farmers located five miles southwest of Woodstock in Seneca Township, was born at Volo, Lake County, Ill., July 19, 1849, a son of Gabriel D. and Samanatha M. (Huson) Torrance, natives of New York state. George L. Torrance was reared on his father’s farm, remaining at home until he was about twenty years of age, at which time he came to the vicinity of Crystal Lake with his parents, and purchase was then made of a large tract of land on which he lived for fourteen years.  Later removal was made to Ogle County, Ill.  In the meanwhile George L. Torrance clerked for a year in a general store at Crystal Lake, and when his father bought 200 acres of land in Seneca Township, he went with him and spent a year on the farm.  The father then retired and lived at Woodstock for five years, when he went into a drug business in Rochelle, Ill., with his son-in-law, and remained for three years.  In the spring of 1891, he returned to Woodstock, and his health failing, lived with his son, George L., until his death, in August, 1899, when he was seventy-six years old.  His widow survived him until February, 1918, when she died at the age of eighty-eight years…”

According to the Illinois, Public Land Purchase Records, 1813-1909:

“On November 15, 1845, Judson purchased 40 acres in Section 26 (Goodale/Grant) Township), Township 45N, Range 9E at $1.25 per acre.”

According to the 1850 U.S. Census for Town of Wauconda, Lake County, IL the household members were:

“M. H. Booth, age 27, occupation: farmer, born in New York; Louisa Booth, age 24, born in New York; Judson M. Huson, age 33, occupation: farmer, born in New York; Ann Huson, age 9, born in New York”

According to the Illinois, Wills and Probate Records, 1772-1999, Lake County, Town of Goodale Tax Receipt:

“Received of J. M. Huson the sum of eight dollars and seventy seven cents, in full for State, County, Town, Poor, School and Road Taxes, assessed for the year 1854…” for 40 acres in Section 40 and for 160 acres in Section 26.

Administrator’s Notice.

PUBLIC Notice is hereby given that the Subscribers Administrators of the Estate of JUDSON M. HUSON, Deceased, will attend the County Court of Lake County, at a term thereof to be holden at the Court House, in Waukegan, in said County, on the first Monday of September next, when and where all persons having claims against said Estate are notified and requested to present the same for adjudication.
