According to the Libertyville Independent (Libertyville IL) Thursday, April 19, 1917, page 4:

“J. A. GRAVES DIED
FRIDAY MORNING

J. A. Graves, a well known resident of Libertyville, passed away Friday morning at eight o’clock at the age of 61 years, 10 months and 18 days. Death was due to valviar heart trouble of which he had been ill about two years.
   Mr. Graves was a carpet weaver by trade and had lived in Libertyville a number of years. For the last two years he had been janitor of the Methodist church, his healthy having failed to such an extent that he was unable to perform any active work.
   Jessie Allen Graves was born at Tonica, LaSalle Co., Ill., May 30, 1855. He was the last surviving member of his father’s family, all brothers and sisters having preceded him in death.
He was united in marriage to Miss Louisa Adams in the state of Iowa on Feb. 2, 1875, and in addition to his (illegible)… wife the deceased leaves one son (illegible)… Henry Burton Graves of Chicago; Mrs. Jennie L. Moore of Grayslake, and Mrs. Mary Huson of Chetek, Wis. The deceased also leaves three grandchildren and besides these of his loved ones, a large circle of friends and neighbors in this and other communities.
   Mr. Graves made his home in Libertyville, for the past eight years and previous to that time he lived in Chicago for fifteen years and was a man who made many friends wherever he went. He became a charter member of the Libertyville Lodge of Odd Fellows having joined here April 8, 1908, and was a member in good and regular standing at the time of his death.
   About twenty-one years ago he united with one of the Evangelical churches in the city of Chicago and was an active member of that church for more than thirteen years. About three years ago he became a member of the Libertyville M. E. church and also become a faithful and active member of the Sunday school and Epworth League of the church.
   He was a man who was always kind and genial and always stood ready to lend a helping hand to those in sickness, distress or need about him. Brother Graves took special interest in all the spiritual meeting of the church.
   The funeral was held from the M. E. church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 the service being conducted by Rev. T. E. Ream and was attended by a large number of friends, the members of the Odd Fellow lodge, about fifty in number attending the service in a body. As Mr. Graves had been a faithful servant to so many of those present by having been the janitor of the church for several years, there was a more pronounced sadness in the hearts of those present as they heard the words of comfort spoken by the pastor.
   The remains were laid at rest in the Lakeside cemetery, the members of the Odd Fellow lodge having charge of the services at the grave.”

According to the Independent Register (Libertyville IL) Thursday, May 13, 1937:

“Former Resident Dies at Round Lake – Funeral services for Mrs. Jesse Graves, who died April 30 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Huson of Round Lake, were held May 3 from the Osborne funeral home, the Rev. Stockton Swaney officiating. Interment was in Lakeside Cemetery. She was born in Waterloo, Pa, Sept. 18, 1852, and the years of her early girlhood and young womanhood were spent in that vicinity. On February 2, 1875 she was married to Jesse Allen Graves, and about 1883, they moved to Chicago, where they resided for about 17 years. Since 1900, when they moved to a farm on the north bank of Fish Lake, near Volo, Mrs. Graves had been resident of Lake county. Mr. and Mrs. Graves were the parents of four children. Jennie L. Moore, Frank, who died in infancy, H. B. Graves of Chicago and Mary Huson of Round Lake. Mr. Graves passed away April 13, 1917, and since that time Mrs. Graves had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Huson, at Libertyville, and later at Round Lake. During this time the family lived at Fish Lake Mrs. Graves was active in the work of the Volo M.E. church and Ladies’ Aid, and in after years, she was affiliated with the Libertyville and Round Lake churches. For the past three years her health had been failing but she had been confined to her bed only a week. She leaves her son, H. B. Graves of Chicago, two daughters, Mrs Jennie Moore of Forest Park, Mrs. Mary Huson of Round Lake, three grandchildren and six great grandchildren.”

Rich, grandmother of six, great-grandmother of seven, sister of Mrs. Mary Huson and the late Bert. Funeral Thursday, 1:30 p. m., at funeral home, Lake street at 2d avenue, Maywood. Interment Cedar Park. MAywood 14.”

“GRAVES – Henry B. Graves, late of 7649 Normal avenue, beloved husband of Pearl Ellis Graves, loving father of Mrs. Edith Evans, fond grandfather of Juanita Bushong, brother of Mrs. Mary Hufon (sic Huson) and Mrs. Jennie Moore. Funeral Saturday, 3 p. m., at funeral home, Halsted at 76^th street. Interment Evergreen cemetery. Member of A. Assn. of St. and Elect. Ry. E. and A. Stewart 7700.”
