Mallas of Sumner, Wash.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Scripture services will be held at Abbey Funeral Chapel on Sunday, September 24th at 7 p.m. Mass will be offered at Sacred Heart Church on Monday, September 25th at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Holy Hope Cemetery. Family requests no flowers. Friends may call at Abbey Funeral Chapel, 3435 N. 1st Ave. (bet. Ft. Lowell & Prince Rds.), Sunday, 10 a.m. until service time.”

According to the Arizona Daily Star (Tucson AZ) Tuesday, May 21, 1996, page 3:
“MALLAS, Leo J. (W7NLU), Born 10 December 1920 in Chicago, IL, passed away 18 May 1996 from pulmonary fibrosis. He is survived by a daughter, son-in-law and two grandsons. At age of four his parents moved to North Chicago, IL. He graduated from Holy Family Grade School in 1935, from Waukegan Township High School, Waukegan, IL 1939. He held numerous industrial jobs until WWII broke out. He enlisted into the Navy Reserve 20 February 1942 for four years. Went through training at Great Lakes Naval Training Station. He was assigned to Catapult School at Navy Pier, Chicago. He then transferred to Philadelphia Navy Yard, where he was assigned to the USS Independence CVL22, joined Pacific Fleet in 1943, was involved in over 155 engagements with the enemy. He was honorably discharged November 20, 1945. He went to Tucson to visit his brother where he met a girl whom he married. He then moved to Decatur, IL and worked six years for Army Signal Corp. He moved back to Tucson and worked for DMAFB for six months before transferring to government Air Force Offices at Hughes Aircraft. Mr. Mallas retired Jun 1, 1972. He did a small amount of traveling, enjoyed working on and developing his home property. He actively enjoyed ham radio activities since 1948. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, May 24 at 3:00 p.m. at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, 5401 S. Park Ave. Donations to St. Mary’s Cardonelet Hospice would be appreciated.”
