“Thelma Noreen Sophie – McHENRY – Thelma Noreen Sophie, 88, died Monday, April 29, 1996, at Alden Terrace Nursing Home in McHenry.  She was born July 17, 1907, in Chicago, while her Ireland-born parents, Marcus K. McMurtry and Mary Ellen Parr, were visiting.  She returned to Nottingham, England where she laster attended St. Michael’s Convent.  At the age of 21, she came to Chicago to be with her brother, Marcus McMurtry.  On May 14, 1935, she married Joseph Gustav Sophie in Chicago.  They raised their family in Harvard.  After her husband’s death, she moved with her family to Crystal Lake, where she lived for 20 years.  She had lived at Royal Terrace in McHenry for nine years until her death…”
