   Servies for Jacob Sturm, 89, Quentin rd., Route 3, Palatine, who died Wednesday, Aug. 27 in the Barrington Rest Home, were held Saturday in St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Palatine.
   The Rev. Glenn G. Gumm, pastor, officiated.  Burial was in Rand Hill cemetery.
   Mr. Sturm was born Jan. 12, 1869, in Ela township, Lake county, the son of Mr.s and Mrs. Jacob Sturm.  He married the former Ellen Baker, feb. 6, 1893, in the Mound Grove church.  She preced him in death 16 years ago.
   Survivors include five sons, Arthur, Russell, Irving, Merle, all of Lake Zurich, and Harry, Elgin, four daughters, Mrs. Alice Oltendorf, 315 W. Slade st., Palatine, Mrs. Pearl Shontanus, Wauconda, Mrs. Eleanor Porteous, Round Lake, Mrs. Grace Blum, Chicago; one sister, Mrs. Bertha Lauerrsen, Lake Zurich; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.”

Mrs. M. E. Sturm

   Mrs. Magdalena Ellen Sturm, daughter of Mr. Nicholas Baker, and Mrs. Mary, nee Pahlman, was born in Ela Township, Cook County, Illinois on January 12, 1872.  She was baptised in infancy and later confirmed at the Long Grove Evangelical Reformed church.  Her early life was spent near Quentins corner.
   February 2, 1893, she was united in holy wedlock with Mr. Jacob Sturm.  This union God has blessed with eleven children, seven sons, and four daughters.  One son, Lester John, preceded his mother to eternity on July 15, 1941.  Since their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Sturm have lived in Ela Township until about three months ago when they moved to Palatine.
   Mr. and Mrs. Sturm at first attended church at Long Grove.  Later they became members at St. Paul’s in Palatine, where Mrs. Sturm was a member until her death.  She was also an active member in the Women’s Guild of St. Paul’s church.
   Mrs. Sturm has been ailing, more or less, since last November.  On January 25 she was removed to Byers hospital in Elgin.  Since that time she has been confined to her bed.  She remained in the hospital about three months.  She became noticeably worse last Sunday.  From that time she seemed to grow steadily weaker until she passed away Thursday, July 16 at 12:10 at noon.  She had reached the age of 70 years, 6 months, and 4 days.
   Mrs. Sturm leaves to mourn her departure: her husband, Mr. Jacob Sturm of Palatine; 6 sons, Arthur of Mercer, Wis., Harry of Elgin, Irving of Lake Zurich, Private Russell of the U. S. Armer, Merl of Palataine, and Gordon of Palatine; four daughters: Alice (Mrs. Elmer Oltendorf) of Palatine, Pearl, (Mrs. Wm., Schotanus) of Palatine, Eleanor, (Mrs. Charles Porteous) of Round Lake, Ill., and Grace (Mrs. Grace Meyer) of Palatine; 11 grandchildren: Violet Sturm of Palatine, Rosemary, Wm. and Joseph Sturm of Mercer, Wis., Marlene Sturm of Libertyville, Merl Schotanus of Palatine, Gordon, Ellen Mae, and Patricia Ann Porteous of Round Lake, and Howard and James Meyer of Palatine and John Sturm of Palatine; 1 brother, Henry Baker of Libertyville; 4 sisters: Mrs. Louise uentins (sic) of Chicago, Mrs. Clara Wagner of Chicago and Myrs. Lydia (Roy) Born of Palatine; 1 uncle, Ernest Pahlman of Barrington; 2 aunts: Mrs. Emma Kleinsmith of Palatine and Mrs. Maggie Pahlman of Minnesota; a number of nieces and nephews, together with a host of other near and far relatives and many friends.  All these join us in extending our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family, and wish for them God’s blessing upon them in their bereavement.
   Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon, July 19, from the Danielsen and Tharp Chapel at 2 p. m. and at St. Paul’s church in Palatine at 2:20 p. m.  Interment was made in Rand Hill Park Cemetery near Arlington Heights, Ill.
   Rev. W. F. Huebner, pastor of St. Paul’s Evangelical and Reformed church in Palatine, officiated.”

    WINDSOR – Pearl A. Schotanus, 83, died Wednesday at the Mount Ascutney Hospital.
   She was born on her family farm in Lake Zurich, Ill., Mary 17, 1904, daughter of Jacob and Ellen Sturm.
   She was married to William Schotanus of Libertyville, Ill., in 1928.  He died in 1957.
   She maintained her home in Waukonda (sic), Ill., until 1973 when she joined her son, Merle W., Schotanus, and daughter-in-law, Helen, in Arlington, Va.  She has lived at Herschel Home in Windsor since 1977.
   She leaves her son, Merle W. Schotanus of Grantham, N.H.; two granddaughters; and two great-granddaughters.
   A memorial service and burial will be in Waukonda (sic), Ill.
   The Knight funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.”

   Funeral services for Russell G. Sturm, 90, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral home, 415 S. Buesching Road, Lake Zurich.  The Rev. Michelle Prentice-Leslie will officiate.
   Born Sept. 13, 1909, in Ela Township, Ill., he died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, in Lake Zurich.  Burial will be in Randhill Park Cemetery.
   A self-employed carpenter for most of his life, Mr. Sturm was also an Army veteran of World War II, a Lake Zurich volunteer fireman and a past member of Zurich Masonic Lodge #1039.
   Survivors include his sister, Eleanor Porteous; and nephews and nieces, Howard Meyer, John Sturm, Coral Lee Scranton and Marion Frappier.
   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alice C. Sturm (nee Tonne); seven brothers; one sister; and great-niece, Julie Ann Frappier.
   Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, at the funeral home.

Ruth will officiate.  Born Jan. 3, 1906, in Lake Zurich, she died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at Winchester House, Libertyville.  Interment will be in Fort Hill Cemetery, Round Lake.  Mrs. Porteous was a member of the Pioneer Grandmothers Club and the Round Lake Area “Happy Seniors”.  She was also an owner of the Park Pet Shop in Round Lake Park for more than 10 years.  Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Gene) Piwowarczyk of Lake Villa; nephews, Howard Myers, John Sturm, Wally, Lester and George Stang; nieces, Marion Sturm, Deloris Butenschoen, Evie Munts and Irene Bratzke; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles D.
