Herman Carl Remter, 60, Grand Chute, died at 4:40 Wednesday morning in Appleton after an illness of 5 years. Born in the town of Buchanan, Mr. Remter moved to Freedom 33 years ago. Three years ago he moved to Winneconne and during the last year he had lived at Grand Chute. Survivors are the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Chester Scheibe, Appleton; Mrs. William TeVrught, Racine; four sons, Norbert, Racine; Gordon, Clarence and Marlin, Grand Chute; one brother Albert, Kaukauna; three sisters, Mrs. Albert Kumrow and Mrs. Robert Sthulerling, Appleton; Mrs. August Finke, Fond du Lac; 14 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 o’clock Saturday afternoon at Brettschneider Funeral home and at 2 o’clock at St. Peter Lutheran church, town of Freedom. The Rev. T. J. Sauer will be in charge of the service at the funeral home and the Rev. T. H. Brenner of Freedom at the church. Burial will be in Community Lutheran cemetery in town of Freedom. The body will be at the funeral home from Thursday evening until the time of the funeral.”

Mrs. Alma Remter, 76, 737 ½ W. Harris street, died at 11:45 Monday evening at her home after a long illness. She was born Dec. 3, 1877 in Milwaukee.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran church. Appleton, with burial in Community Lutheran cemetery, Freedom. Friends may call at the Brettschneider Funeral home from 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon until 10 o’clock Thursday morning and then at the church.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Chester Scheibe, Appleton, and Mrs. William TeVrucht, Racine; four sons, Gordon, Clarence, both of Appleton, Norbert, Round Lake, Ill., and Marlin, Minneapolis, Minn.; one brother, Alvin Schubring, Kaukauna; 23 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.”

“Racine Woman
Dies of Injuries
Mrs. Eva Remter, 36, of 3240 Republic avenue, died in St. Catherine’s hospital in Kenosha Sunday, from injuries received Thursday when an automobile in which she was riding crashed into a tree on Twenty-second street in Kenosha. Three other persons, including her husband, were also seriously hurt.
Death of Mrs. Remter was not revealed to her husband, whose condition was reported by the hospital to show a slight improvement today. Relatives said he is delirious most of the time. He received head and leg injuries when driving the car which skidded 300 feet on the wet pavement before it hit the tree, according to Kenosha police.
William TeVrucht, 33, and his wife, Wilma TeVrucht, 29, passengers in the car, are also in the hospital. Her condition was reported as fair today, and TeVrucht’s was listed as good.
Mrs. Remter was born Jan. 2, 1908, in Lille, France, and had lived in Racine 24 years. She was a member of the First Evangelical church.
Two Daughters Survive.
Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Doris and Joyce, and one son, Norbert Remter, Jr.; two sisters; Mrs. Julius DeCraene, 3714 Wright avenue, and Mrs. peter Flamment of Waukegan, and her mother, Mrs. Augusta Ghysels of Sturtevant.
Maresh funeral home will announce time of services.
Mrs. Remter’s death is the eighth traffic fatality in Kenosha since Jan. 1, highest on record for the period. Traffic toll in 1943 in Kenosha was 11.”

Funeral services for Mrs. Eva Remter, 36, of 3240 Republic avenue, who died in St. Catherine’s hospital, Kenosha, Sunday, from injuries received Thursday in an automobile accident in Kenosha county, will be held Wednesday.
Still unaware of his wife’s death is Norbert Remter, who is in St. Catherine’s hospital. Hospital attendants say that Remter’s condition has improved but is still critical. William TeVrucht, 33, and his wife, Wilma, 29, passengers in the car, which struck a tree, are reported in fair condition today.
Rev. Theo. Volkert will officiate at the funeral services Wednesday which will be held at 1:30 p. m. in the Maresh funeral home and at 2 p. m. in the First Evangelical Lutheran church. Burial will be in West Lawn cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home until service time.”

Mrs. Norbert Remter, 36, Racine, whose husband is a former Appleton resident, died Sunday in Kenosha as the result of injuries received three days before that when an automobile in which she was riding crashed into a tree in Kenosha.
Three other persons formerly of Appleton, including her husband, were also seriously hurt. The others were Mr. and Mrs. William TeVrucht, who left Appleton 11 years ago.
Death of Mrs. Remter was not revealed to her husband, who suffered head and leg injuries. He was driver of the car which skidded on the wet pavement before it hit the tree, according to Kenosha police.
The fifth occupant of the car, Marlin Remter, 27, Appleton, who is in the navy, escaped with body bruises. He left the hospital after being treated.
Mrs. Remter’s survivors are her husband; two daughters, Doris and Joyce, and one son, Norbert, Jr.

RACINE – Age 86, passed away Monday, November 24, 2014 at her residence.
Doris was born in Racine, August 3, 1928, daughter of the late Norbert and Yvonne (Nee: Ghysels) Remter.
In August of 1945 she was united in marriage to Robert J. Cassity. On November 14, 1993 she was united in marriage to Bruce R. Jacobsen. Doris was employed by Svendsen Brothers for twenty years, retiring from Headley’s Medical Home Care after ten years of service. She was a long-time member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was actively involved in the Altar guild, Mission Circle and Ladies Aid. An excellent cook and baker, Doris also enjoyed crafts, designing beautiful jewelry, and attending craft fairs. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who will be deeply missed.
Survivors include her husband, Bruce; her children, Brian (Debbie) Cassity, Nora (Jeffrey) Erlandson, all of Racine; her stepchildren, William (Suzanne) Jacobsen, John Jacobsen, Gene Jacobsen; her six grandchildren, Nick, Joe, Kelly, Lori, Tim and Mitchell; four step-grandchildren, Danielle, J.R., Stefanie, and Brandon; 10 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Albert Quadraccia; brothers Norbert Remter, Wayne (Carol) Remter; nieces, nephews; other relatives and dear friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter, Jean Quadraccia; her great-granddaughter, Addison; sister, Joyce (Thomas) Granger; and sister-in-law, Beverly Remter.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 28, 2014, 11:30 A.M. at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 728 Villa Street with Rev. John Roekle officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Friday at the church from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at 11:30 A.M. Interment will be held at West Lawn Memorial Park. Memorials to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church have been suggested.

RACINE – Joyce A. Granger, 80, received the promise of eternal life on Tuesday, February 11, 2014. She was born in Racine on January 7, 1932, daughter of the late Norbert and Yvonne “Eva” (nee: Ghysels) Remter. Joyce was united in marriage to the love of her life, Thomas James Granger, on January 10, 1953, at St. Edward Catholic Church. Tom preceded her in death on February 18, 2006. Joyce graduated from Park High School in 1950. She was a teaching assistant for many years at Horlick High School until her retirement. Joyce was one of the best bargain shoppers around and enjoyed finding little treasures in thrift shops. She also liked to go to the casinos to spend a little time trying her luck. Joyce loved taking vacations to Eagle River at the Sunset Resort for more than 30 y ears. She enjoyed the quiet time and reading while among nature. Above all, Joyce treasured her family and will be dearly missed. Remter owned and operated Remter’s Bar. He was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church, the board of directors of the Community Lutheran Cemetery of Freedom and a member and former director of the Tavern League.
Visitation is set for 3-9 p.m. Tuesday at Valley Funeral Home, and from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the service at the church.

He was born November 14, 1908 in Freedom, the son of the late Herman and Alma (Schrubring) Remter and had resided in the Appleton area all of his life. Clarence was united in marriage to Ruth E. Jenkel on February 25, 1933 sharing 62 years together. Clarence owned and operated Remter Service Station in Appleton and later worked for Jenkel Oil Company retiring in 1974. He was a member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church and AARP. God saw he was getting tired, and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around him and whispered “Come with Me”. With tearful eyes we watched him suffer, and saw him fade away. Although we loved him dearly, we could not make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best!!!

Age 94, passed into Jesus’ loving arms peacefully on Thursday morning, March 17, 2005. Elvera was born in Freedom on April 16, 1910, daughter of the late Herman and Alma (Schubring). On October 21, 1927, she married Chester Scheibe at St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church in Freedom; he preceded her in death on May 29, 1969, after forty-one years of marriage. As a young woman, Elvera worked at Scolding Locks Company in Appleton, and was a longtime and faithful member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church where she volunteered at the school hot lunch program and was also a thirty-five year member and a Past Officer of the Ladies Aid. Many will remember her love for gardening and the special care she gave to her African violets.
Survivors include eight children: Floyd (Janice) Sheibe of Gillett, Eugene (Lorrine) Scheibe of Menasha, Joyce Butterfield of Appleton, Harold (Eunice) Scheibe of Appleton, Joan (Wayne) Strelow of Appleton, Daniel (Darlene) Scheibe of Medina, Karen Scheibe of Appleton, and Timothy (Judy) Scheibe of Appleton. She is further survived by nineteen grandchildren: Mary (Ken) Buetwo, Thomas (Kordi) Scheibe, Gregg (Cathy) Scheibe, Sandra Scheibe and her fiance Ron Weyenberg, Lori (Joe) Friebel, Tami (Ronald) Schurer, Lisa (George) DeBruin, Julie (Robert) Meltz, Diana (Scott) Rehmer, Brenda (Chad) Schultz, Michael (Susan) Strelow, Brian (Jody) Strelow, William Strelow, James Strelow, Mark Scheibe, Amy (David) Stern, Adam (Jen) Scheibe, Rebecca (Josh) Salzman, and Jennifer (Eric) George; a granddaughter-in-law: Barbara Scheibe; forty-two great-grandchildren, ten great-great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law: Ruth Remter of Appleton, as well as numerous nieces, nephews other relatives, and many friends.
Elvera was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son-in-law Kenneth Butterfield, two grandson Floyd Scheibe, Jr. and John Scheibe, a sister Wilme TeVrucht, and brothers Norbert, Gordon, Clarence, Lester, and Marlin.
The Christian Funeral for Elvera will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 21, 2005 at ST. PAUL EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 302 N. Morrison Street in Appleton with Rev. Kenneth Frey officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 PM and again at the church on Monday from 10:00 AM until the hour of the service. A memorial fund in Elvera’s name is being established.

Doris Remter is Bride at Parsonage
“With a small gathering of relatives and friends to witness the ceremony Miss Doris Remter, daughter of Norbert Remter, 3240 Republic Ave., was united in marriage with Robert J. Cassity, Danville, Ill., at 1 p. m. Saturday. The First Evangelical Lutheran parsonage was the scene of the nuptials as Rev. Theodore Volkert officiate.
Attired in a two-piece eyelet street length dress, the bride was attended by Mrs. Beulah Seianas as matron of honor. Mrs. Seianas wore a two-piece lime green suit. Both wore corsages. Servicing the bridegroom, son of Mrs, B. Cassity, Danville, was Raymond Demagall.
For the bridal party a wedding dinner preceded the reception at which 100 guests were received.
Until Sept. 15 the couple will honeymoon in Chicago, where the bridegroom is stationed.
Included among the out-of-town guests were Mrs. B. Cassity, Danville, Ill.; William Anderson, Chicago; Messrs. And Mmes. Gordon Remter, Clarence Remter, Chester Scheibe, Mrs. Herman Remter, and Martin Remter, Appleton, Wis.; Mrs. A. Ghysels, Sturtevant.”

NORBERT REMTER
“Norbert Remter, 54, a native of Freedom residing at Round Lake, Ill., died at Chicago, Friday noon. He was born April 4, 1903.
Funeral services will be at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon at St. Paul Lutheran church, Round Lake with burial in the parish cemetery. The Strange (sic Strang) Funeral home, Gray’s Lake, Ill., is making the arrangements.
He is survived by his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas Granger and Mrs. Robert Cassity, both of Racine; two sons, Norbert and Wayne, both at home; three brothers, Marlin, Minneapolis and Clarence and Gordon, both of Appleton; and two sisters, Mrs. William TeVrucht, Racine, and Mrs. Chester Scheibe, Appleton.”

“REMTER, NORBERT H. – 408 Kenwood Drive, Round Lake, Ill. – Age 54. Passed away Feb. 28, 1958, in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Chicago. Mr. Remter, a former resident of Racine, was born in Freedom, Wis. On April 4, 1903, and had lived in Racine for 20 years before moving to Illinois. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Round Lake, Ill. Surviving are his wife, Helen; two daughters, Mrs. Robert Cassity and Mrs. Thomas Granger of Racine; two sons, Norbert Jr. and Wayne of Round Lake, Ill.; one step-daughter; six step-sons; four grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. William TeVrucht of Racine and Mrs. Chester Scheibe of Appleton, Wis. And Marlin of Minneapolis, Minn. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon, March 3, 2 o’clock, in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Rev. Noll officiating. Interment will be in Fort Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME, Gray’s Lake, Ill., Sunday afternoon and evening and until service time on Monday.”
