“WHITE. At his home in Spirit Lake, March 7th, Edward N. White, of paralysis, aged 69 years.
Death in this instance came as a relief from long suffering, the deceased having been an invalid and great sufferer for several years. He was born in Cumington, Massachusetts, and when a small boy moved with his parents to Lake county, Ohio, later locating at Waukegan, Illinois, where he accumulated quite a fortune and united in marriage with Miss Hannah Hamlin, the companion who survives him, in 1854. As a result of this union seven children were born – Loren, Charles, Newell, Horatio, Sadie and Mrs. A. H. Jemerson, one dying in infancy. In 1881 the family came to this county, where they have since resided, with the exception of Loren and Newell, who for a number of years have resided at Estherville. Misfortune in business exhausted the fortune of the deceased before coming to this county, and since his residence here he has been a very poor health most of the time. He was a machinist and wheelwright by trade.
Funeral services were conducted in the Presbyterian church by the pastor, Wednesday afternoon.
The family keenly appreciate the kindness of neighbors and friends in their hour of affliction, and extend sincere thanks for the kind and thoughtful assistance rendered.”

“TWO AGED MOTHERS
CALLED TO REST
———-
MRS. E. N. WHITE PASSED AWAY
ON SUNDAY – MRS. JENS JEN-
SON ON TUESDAY
———-

A veil of sadness rests over a number of Spirit Lake homes this week caused by the death of Mrs. Edward Newell White, mother of Mrs. L. B. Lindquist, Mrs. A. H. Jemerson and H. E. White, who passed to her eternal rest at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lindquist, aft a long, busy and useful life. Death came on Sunday, surely a most fitting day for a pure spirit to take its flight heavenward. She had but recently entered upon her eighty-fourth year and had always been very active until the last few months when she began to fail.
The funeral services were conducted from the L. B. Lindquist home Wednesday afternoon by Rev. R. N. Miles of the Presbyterian church. Interment was made in the family lot beside her husband in Lake View cemetery.
Hannah Hamlin White was born in Cattaragus county, N. Y., on August 28, 1837. When she was about 14 years of age she moved with her parents to DeKalb county, Illinois, where she resided until her marriage to Edward Newell White on June 15, 1851. Mr. and Mrs. White took up their residence at Hainesville, Lake county, Illinois. To this union were born several children. The eldest child, Jennie, died in infancy. Those remaining to mourn the death of a dear mother are L. E. White of Estherville, H. E. White of Spirit Lake, Charles R. White of Sioux City, and Mrs. L. B. Lindquist of Spirit Lake. One son, H. N. White of Estherville, passed away on June 6, 1910.
Mrs. White also leaves one brother, Benjamin Hamlin of Lake Villa, Illinois, and several grand children.
In May 1881 she came with her husband and family to Spirit Lake and has made this place her home since that time. Her husband passed away March 7, 1898. Since that date she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Lindquist, who has tenderly cared for her during her declining years.
After a long, busy and useful life, Mrs. White died as she had lived, honored, trusted and loved. She reared her own monument while she lived in the hearts of all who knew her. She was always ready to assist all in distress or need and uncomplainingly did whatever she saw was her duty. Her whole life has been devoted primarily to her home and family, with always a good word for everyone. She has been a mother in the fullest sense. Her life was completed if work all done and well done constitutes completion.”

“NEWELL H. WHITE DEAD
———-
Passed Away Sunday Afternoon After
Brief Illness.
———-

This community was shocked Sunday afternoon when it was announced that N. H. White had passed away at 2:30. Very few outside of his immediate relatives knew of his serious illness. He had been on the street it seemed only a few days ago and now he was cold in death. His sickness was of short duration. Two weeks ago he remarked that he was not feeling well and remained at home part of the time, coming down town only when business demanded his attention. About ten days ago he was compelled to remain in his room and it was found that he had a well developed case of bronchial pneumonia. He was given the best of medical attention, but to no avail. Death is cruel. It was the writer’s good fortune to have known him long and well and we only knew him to esteem him more highly as the years passed by. Today we miss his kindly smile and friendly greeting; we long in vain to hear the ring of his jovial laughter and to feel again his gentle presence. “Pete” White had many friends in Estherville who regret to learn of his untimely death. He was a devoted father, but greatest of all he was a man.
He was born in Hainesville, Lake County, Ill., September 22, 1871, and came to Spirit Lake in May 1881. In the spring of 1890 he came to Estherville and soon after engaged in the meat business with his brother, L. E. White, under the firm name of White Brothers and remained in business for several years. For the past ten years he has been engaged in the dray business here. On October 20, 1891, he was married to Mary Howe and to this union six children were born, five of whom are still living. Ellen, Sadie, Mary, Walter and Hazel. Ellen is thirteen years of age and Hazel four. Besided a wife and children he leaves an aged mother, Mrs. E. N. White, two sisters, Mrs. L. Lindquist and Mrs. A. H. Jemerson and one brother, Horatio White, at Spirit Lake, and two brothers, L. E. and Charles White, residing in Estherville. He was a member of the Masonic order, Elks Knights of Pythias, Woodmen, and Estherville Fire Company. He carried $5,000 insurance in the Des Moines Life and $3,000 in the Woodmen. Funeral services will be held at the Catholic church Wednesday morning at 10:30, conducted by Father Kelly, of Graettinger, and his remains interred to the Catholic cemetery.”
