“JOYCE ELAIN SLOAN – February 26, 1934 – May 12, 2014 – Joyce Elaine Sloan, 80 years old, passed away Monday, May 12, 2014 at Paradise Park, Fox Lake, Lake County, IL.  She was born February 26, 1934 in Hermansville, MI the daughter of the late Theodore and Maude (Winters) Vickers.  Joyce enjoyed crafting, especially sewing, crocheting, and pottery.  Survivors include her daughter, Noreen (John) Dahmen of Round Lake, IL and son-in-law, Jack Marsoobian of Gurnee, IL; grandchildren, Charlie, Amy (Billy) Jamie, Jacob, Christina (Bob), and Johnny; and great-grandchildren, Cody, Brittany, Frankie, Misty, Jordan, Emma, Jimmy, Bobby, Benjamin, Kenny, Jamie, Skylar, Destiny, Ethan, Dakota, Dustin, and Landon.  In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her first husband, Norman Horner, second husband, Richard Sloan, a daughter, Becky Marsoobian, and eleven siblings.  Memorial services will be held at 4PM Saturday, May 17, 2014 at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH, 1055 Main St. (Rte. 83) Antioch, IL.  Memorial visitation will be from 2-4PM Saturday. According to the Chicago Tribune (Chicago IL) Tuesday, January 4, 1955, page 33:

“1ST DAY ON JOB, 24TH BIRTHDAY END IN TRAGEDY – Turnes Left in Auto, Killed by Truck – Douglas Vickers, 115 Clifton dr., Round Lake Park, Lake county, was killed yesterday – his 24th birthday – when his automobile was struck as he made a left turn into the path of a truck in U. S. 45 at Peterson rd, three miles north of Mundelein.  Vickers was returning from his first day on a new job as a furniture packer in Lake Bluff.  The truck was driven by Davin Zelinger, 885 Warrington rd., Des Plaines.  Airman Glenn Deese, 20, of Chanute field, Ill., a passenger in the truck, was injured slightly.  He was taken to the Great Lakes naval training center hospital.”
