DIED LAST WEEK IN HARVARD

   Edwin Grant Haldeman, 85, of Chemung township, a native of Spring Grove, died last week Wednesday, Nov. 21, following an illness of several days.  He resided with a daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Wilkinson, for thirteen years.
   The deceased was born march 5, 1866, at Spring Grove and made his home in that community until moving to the Harvard area in 1923.  He farmed until retiring.
   His wife, the former Annie K. Rehorst, whom he married Feb. 14, 1894, died in 1929.  He is survived by three daughters and four sons, Mrs. Wilkinson, Mrs. Edward Hanlan of Prairie Grove, Ark., Mrs. Frank E. Tolbert, Chicago; Cecil and Lyman of Sharon, Wis., Edwin and Paul of Chemung, Wis.; also eighteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
   Rites were conducted Saturday afternoon from the Schutt-Mcfanin-Saunders funeral home in Harvard, with interment in Richmond.”

   He was a loving husband to his wife, Arlene A. Wilkinson with whom they were married for 57 years.  He is survived by his daughter, Julie Wilkinson Pixley and her husband, Gary Pixley; step-daughter, JoAnne Karroll; and two sons, William and James Markus, and grandchildren, great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by his stepson, Gary Oborny.

   She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved, protected and enjoyed spending time with her family.
   She will be loved and missed by her daughter, Audrey Ann Sharp of Duluth; a son, Larry (Vicky) Kasten of Lydia, Minn.; her granddaughters, Heather Campbell and Rachel (Andrew) Olson; her grandsons, Jeremiah (Stacy) Kasten and Josiah Kasten; her great-grandchildren, Connor Campbell, Benjamin Simonitsch, Ezra Olson, Gabriel Kasten and Abigail Kasten; her brothers, Harold (Arlene) Wilkinson of Johnson City, Tenn., and George M Wilkinson Jr. of Ruskin, Fla.; a special cousin, Lois Prendergast of Lake Villa; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and a special church friend, Bradley Greenwald.

   She married Edward Hanlan in 1916 and the couple moved to Moosejaw, Canada.  In 1930 they moved to Gillette, Wyo.  They moved to the Bitter Root in September 1952.
   She was preceded in death by her husband in 1963, and a daughter, Viola Ballard, in 1981.
   Survivors include three sons, Floyd and Raymond, both of Stevensville; Everett of Biddle; a daughter, Alberta Hanlan of Missoula; a brother, Edwin of Fontana, Wis.; a sister, Ruth Robert of Chicago; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

   WALWORTH, Wis. – Edwin D. Haldeman, Sr., 96, of Walworth, Wis., died Friday, Feb. 20, 1998, at Williams Bay Care Center in Williams Bay, Wis.
   He was born July 21, 1901, in Spring Grove, to Edwin G. and Annie (Rehorst) Haldeman.  On Sept. 17, 1930, in Chicago, he married Margaret Kraemer.
   He worked in the maintenance department at Dean Foods in Chemung for 27 years before retiring in 1966.  He had done carpentry work.
   He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Harvard, serving as an elder and a deacon in the church.
   He was a former Boy Scout leader and school board member of the Chemung School district.
   Survivors include his wife, Margaret of Walworth: four children, Edwin (Mary Jane) Haldeman Jr. and Jerry (Jean) Haldeman, both of Harvard, JoAnn (Dale) Marrs of Richardson, Texas, and Jess (Virginia) Haldeman of Big Sandy, Texas; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth (Frank) Tolbert of Chicago.
   He was preceded in death by three brothers, Cecil, Paul and Lyman; and three sisters, Edith Hanlan, Louella Wilkinson and Viola Wilkinson.

PAUL D. HALDEMAN
   WOODSTOCK – Paul D. Haldeman, 70, 517 Dane St., Woodstock, died this morning in his home.
   He was born Dec. 2, 1908, in Spring Grove, the son of Edwin and Annie Rehorst Haldeman.
   On June 2, 1939, in St. Charles, he married Doris Read, who survives.
   A plumber, Mr. Haldeman was employed by Read Plumbing and Heating of Crystal Lake, Andrew Plumbing and Heating of Harvard, and Kendrigan Plumbing in Woodstock.  He retired in 1972 from the McHenry County Sheriff’s office after 15 years employment, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
   In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. William (Nancy) Kopsell and Mrs. Herbert (Diana) Bauman Jr., Woodstock; six grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Edith Hanlan, Stevensville, Mont., and Mrs. Frank (Ruth) Tolbert, Chicago; and a brother, Edwin, Fontana, Wis.
   He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
   Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday in the Schneider, Leucth, Merwin, and Cooney chapel, Woodstock, where the Rev. Gordon Shafer will conduct services at 11 a.m. Friday.  Burial will be in McHenry County Memorial Park cemetery, Woodstock.”

According to notes from Genealogy.com re: Haldeman letter dated 10/24/1812 by Larry Kasten on March 23, 2002:

“Funeral Notice for Luella: were held at the Methodist Episcopal Church at Grayslake, ILL., on Thursday afternoon with the Rev. Hugh S. McKeown officiating.  She died of pneumonia at the hospital in Waukegan, ILL.  Luella is the second daughter of Edwin Haldeman and was born 5/9/1896 in Richmond Twp., McHenry Co., ILL. and lived in that area until her married to Frank Wilkinson in 1918.  She was a member of the Rustic Camp, R.N.A. of Richmond.  She is survived by her husband and children.  Some of those were attended the funeral were: Mr. & Mrs. William Elfers, Mr. & Mrs. George Elfers, Mrs. Henry Vogel, Mr. & Mrs. E. G. Turner and B. T. Winn.  She was buried at Fort Hill Cemetery outside of Grayslake, ILL.”

“Mrs. Frank Wilkinson passed away at the Lake County Hospital Tuesday morning.  She had been ill with the flu and was taken to the hospital Saturday suffering with pneumonia from which she died Tuesday morning.  Mrs. Wilkinson was formerly Miss Luella Haldeman of Harvard, Wis. And was about 34 years of age.  She leaves to mourn her death her husband, Frank Wilkinson and five children Opal, June, Frank, Harold and a baby girl two months old, as well as a host of friends.  The funeral was held at the Methodist Church Thursday at two o’clock and burial at Fort Hill Cemetery.  Rev. Hugh McKeown officiating.”
