According to an article from the “Virginia Lawyer” magazine titled “Bernard J. DiMuro Installed as State Bar President”, June/July 2002, pages 10-14:

“Shortly after I was born in 1954, my family and I moved from Boston to Round Lake, Illinois, a town of 500 people, located just 50 miles northwest of Chicago.  My father was the town’s first full-time police officer and became the chief of police in the early ’60s….”

According to the Chicago Tribune (Chicago IL) Thursday, November 28, 1963, page 26:

“Police Stop Trains
to Avert Collision

   Fast thinking by a Milwaukee Road dispatcher and quick action by Round Lake and Round Lake Park police last night averted a possible head-on collision between a crowded holiday train and a commuter train.  The trains were halted a quarter of a mile apart.
   Dick Wu, the railroad’s dispatcher at Fox Lake, called police and asked them to halt the oncoming trains, the Varsity, carrying 400 passengers from Madison, Wis. to Chicago, and the 7:17 p. m. Chicago to Fox Lake commuter train carrying 25 to 50 person.

Train Leaves Late

   A railroad spokesman said the eight-coach Varsity, filled with University of Wisconsin students homebound for Thanksgiving, had left Madison late.  As a result, Wu feared the engineers of both trains might think each had the all-clear on the single track.
   Bernard Dimuro (sic), Round Lake police chief, and his men drove westward in the road along the tracks and used their lights to flag down the Varsity.
   Meanwhile, a Round Lake Park squad drove eastward on the road alongside the tracks and halted the four-coach commuter train.  The commuter train was moved onto a siding to allow the Varsity to proceed to Chicago.

Fears Mistaken Signal

   Because the Varsity was running late, the railroad spokesman said, Wu feared the commuter engineer might misinterpret the automatic block signals and not take to the siding as scheduled.  Thus to avoid any such mistake and possible collision, he took the precaution of halting the trains, the spokesman said.”
