   Jack E. Vickers, 73, of Bristol, died Sunday (Oct 13, 2002) at his home.
   He was born Jan. 2, 1929, in Hermansville, Mich., the son of the late Theodore and Maude (Winters) Vickers.  He lived in Lake Villa, Ill., before moving to Rainbow Lakes Manor in Bristol 18 years ago.
   He served in the U.S. Navy.
   On November 8, 1952, he married Carolee Dohr in Round Lake, Ill.
   He retired from Asplundh Tree Company where he was the regional sales manager for 13 mid-western states.
   He was a member of St. Scholastica Church and enjoyed camping, traveling, and bowling on the Wednesday Senior League at Antioch Lanes.
   Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Debbie (Pat) Rizzo of Lake Villa, Ill., Karen (Gary) Smith of Ingleside, Ill., Kimmie (David) Carmichael of Trevor, and Jackie (K.C.) Welter of Bristol; one sister, Joyce (Dick) Sloam of Waukegan,; 10 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
   He was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters.
   Strang Funeral Home, Antioch, Ill., is serving the family.”

Winters was born Oct. 22, 1876 at Selma, Ia., the son of Ben and Lemar Winters.  He passed away Monday, May 31, at 12:50 p. m., at his home here at the age of 72 years and seven months.  Due to a heart condition he had been in failing health for the past four years.  He was united in marriage to Blanche Barnett on Dec. 25, 1899, at Keosauqua.  They moved to Minnesota from Emerson in 1917 and lived there in Maplewood township until three years ago when they moved to Malvern.  Eight children were born to this union.  Floyd and Joe preceded their father in death.  Mr. Winters is survived by his wife, Blanche; two sons, Roy of Malvern and Paul of Emerson; four daughters, Mrs. Hazel Holman and Mrs. Gayle Marble, both of Seattle, Wash., Mrs. Thelma Holmon of Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. Ruth Haugven of Richerall, Ore.; two sisters, Mrs. C. A. Cox of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. R. A. Vickers of Round Lake, Ill.; three brothers, Frank and Ave, Cantril and Ben Wainters of Jefferson, S.  “James Edward Winters – James Edward Winters, son of Benjamin Elmira Winters was born Oct., 1883 and passed away at his home in Keosauqua, Ia., Dec. 2, 1941, at the age of 58 years, 1 month and 3 days.  He was united in marriage to Alice McIntosh, Oct. 31, 1908 (sic), who passed away March 24, 1910.  To this union were born three children, Cyrus and Craig of Keosauqua, Iowa and Sarah of Northwood, Iowa.  He was married to Mae E. Garrett, August 8, 1912.  To this union were born eight children, tow (sic) of which preceded him to death, Margaret and N. C. Elnora; surviving him are the following children, James, Howard and Lorraine at home; Mrs. Albert Nelson of Fairfield and Mrs. Willoughby Huffman of Davenport. He leaves to mourn his passing his beloved wife and family, also five brothers and two sisters. One sister preceded him in death.  He also leaves 10 grandchildren and a host of friends.  Interment was made in Purdom cemetery.”

 “B. Winters – Ben Winters, Jr., 79, 1414 Casselman St. and a former Jesserson, S. D., resident, died Thursday at Matney Westside Manor of a long illness.  Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.  The Rev. Marvin Ketterling, pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Elk Point, S. D, will officiate.  Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of the funeral home.  Mr. Winters was born Aug. 12, 1900 in Keosauqua, Iowa, in Van Buren County.  He lived for several years in Plymouth County, Iowa and moved to Union County, S.D. in March 1935.  He was a longtime resident of Jefferson, S.D.  He married the farmer Anna C. Kelley Jan. 3, 1924 at Onawa, Iowa.  Mr. Winters worked for Cudahy’s packing plant for several years and was employed by the Milwaukee Railroad for many years before his retirement in the late 1950s.  Survivors include the widow; one son, Gary of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; seven daughters, Mrs. Clarence (Vivian) Anderson and Mrs. Donald (Nancy) Van Meter, both of Sioux City, Mrs. Lawrence (Opal) Brewer and Mrs. Harold (Bonnie) Bouck, both of Elk Point, S. D., Mrs. Chester (Maxine) Sherrard of Charlotte, Maine, Mrs. John (Delores) Martinez of Sudbury, Mass.
